WikiPakk is not affected by the SharePoint Add-In retirement. WikiPakk is a SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solution - not a SharePoint Add-In.
The Question
A customer recently asked:
With Microsoft retiring SharePoint Add-Ins, how does that impact WikiPakk?
This is a reasonable concern given the retirement announcement by Microsoft. But the premise is incorrect: WikiPakk is not a SharePoint Add-In.
What Microsoft Is Retiring
Microsoft is retiring the SharePoint Add-In extensibility model in SharePoint Online, effective April 2nd, 2026. This is a legacy development model. The official FAQ makes it very clear:
Is SharePoint Framework (SPFx) impacted by these retirements?
No, SharePoint Framework (SPFx) is the recommended development model for SharePoint extensibility and is not impacted by these retirements. These retirements only affect SharePoint Add-Ins (a legacy development model) and Azure ACS (a legacy auth model).
Why WikiPakk Is Not Affected
WikiPakk is built on the SharePoint Framework (SPFx), the modern and recommended extensibility model. It is deployed as an .sppkg package via the SharePoint app catalog - which Microsoft also explicitly confirms will continue to work:
Both tenant and site collection app catalogs are an essential part of the SharePoint developer ecosystem. They’re used for both Add-Ins (retired) and SharePoint Framework (SPFx) based solutions (not retired). Using the app catalogs for SharePoint Framework solution deployment will continue to be fully supported; no changes!
WikiPakk updates are delivered through the same SPFx app catalog mechanism. Nothing changes here.
