WikiTraccs 2.0.12
This is a big update, driven by the introduction of Content Decision Lists. This required changes to the page processing pipeline of WikiTraccs that lead to a whole list of additional adjustments. This prerelease has proven quite stable so far. More updates will follow as well as additional documentation, which is still lacking for the new features.
(Pre)release Evolution
Features
- new: Content Decision Lists (CDLs) let you include or include subtrees or single pages for migration; routing to different sites is also possible (tutorial video)
- new: missing target sites can now be automatically created, if permissions allow (opt-in via settings)
- new: WikiTraccs converts several Linchpin Intranet Suite macros
- new: files attached to a Confluence comment or reply, including Confluence Cloud footer comments, now migrate together with the comment
- new: Confluence Data Center: a link to a person’s Confluence profile (
/display/~name, or a user profile link) becomes a SharePoint mention of that person. - new: WikiTraccs.GUI shows a status picture of your SharePoint sites while it prepares them, migrates a Content Decision List, or updates the Space Inventory list
- new: the Broken Links inventory report shows broken links for each space. It groups links by destination and shows the source pages that contain them. This includes links to pages, attachments, images, and Jira content.
- new: optional Telegram notifications let you monitor an unattended run. They show progress, requests that need attention, and the final run status. Telegram notifications must be configured before use.
- new: access the WikiTraccs.GUI log directly in the blue WikiTraccs window; turn it on in the menu bar
Improvements
- improved: attachments: WikiTraccs migrates attachments from archived Confluence Cloud pages, distributes uploads by file count and size, reduces parallel work when SharePoint limits requests, and retries temporary SharePoint gateway failures.
- improved: run time: large spaces take less time to scan and compare with existing target pages, link processing makes fewer Confluence requests when many source content selectors use CQL.
- improved: inventory reports include team calendar names and counts, the reason a page could not convert (Flagged Pages), and the download status of each attachment (Attachment Linkage).
- improved: the Confluence Space Inventory list has clearer column names, quick access controls, colors for column groups, links to the Confluence spaces, each space’s labels and description (you can filter by them), a Ready Page Count, and a WikiTraccs Notes column that explains the last check. The WikiTraccs columns of the Site Assets library show readable names instead of technical names.
- improved: progress log files give more detail about each source content selector, target site, and result, in separate files for the start and the end of a run.
- improved: the progress display shows more detail during source discovery, SharePoint preparation, and selector start-up, shows when WikiTraccs stops or finishes, and shows a “waiting for more pages” indicator between batches of work.
- improved: sign-in and browser: Microsoft 365 browser sign-in will be reused when you start a migration from WikiTraccs.GUI; browser startup reuses an installed Chrome driver; Confluence DC browser sign-in keeps the session of an XRPX access gateway; and Confluence Cloud connection messages identify Windows security settings that prevent a secure connection to Atlassian.
- improved: messages and settings: Watch Tower shows where settings come from and which ones need attention, SharePoint connection and preparation messages name every missing field and what WikiTraccs is about to create, folder access checks report unusable folders before the run starts, and you can set a separate log folder.
- improved: macros: content inside a Scroll Ignore macro is kept, a Scroll Export Button becomes a short note, the Communardo Contact Person macro keeps the Microsoft account ID (Confluence Cloud), the Lorem Ipsum macro shows generated text instead of a note, and the Brikit Theme Press link and display macros become real links and values (the link macros also on Confluence Cloud).
- improved: the capture of a whiteboard’s full content (Export raw whiteboard data) now also works with a Confluence Cloud API token.
- improved: component updates for outdated components.
- improved: links: the link fixer now repairs more links.
Bug fixes
- fix: page change detection: a changed page could be skipped when the computer and SharePoint used different time zones, on bulk edits with small time differences, or when an old copy of the page existed in another space. WikiTraccs now compares consistent times, and also detects a change by the page version number.
- fix: progress and progress log files-related fixes.
- fix: inventory results: link-related improvements; removed some false positives regarding hidden images, removed images, and profile images.
- fix: browser automation: changed sign-in cookies could end a valid Confluence session.
- fix: comments: Confluence Cloud comments could show the last edit time as the creation time, or incomplete author or editor names.
- fix: page content: Roadmap Planner images (Confluence Cloud) could be missing, PlantUML images lost their alignment, a Confluence Cloud layout section without a column type stopped the whole page, a Brikit Theme Press layout with more than six columns repeated its first columns, a link without a destination or outside the migration scope lost its text or counted as a failed transformation, text with
]]>broke page processing, and a fallback search for a page title could select the wrong space. - fix: whiteboards and draw.io: a Confluence Cloud whiteboard preview image could be empty (emoji characters), missing (the image took more than 30 seconds, or the whiteboard app was not ready), or without data (Confluence rejected the token request); draw.io preview export could select the wrong file format, or lose a completed image after a browser timeout.
- fix: selecting “Stop” could be reported as an error in the log.
- fix: WikiTraccs.GUI: when typing, the input fields could replace text that you had just entered, the Tab key and the mouse wheel could move to the wrong place, the Start and connection test buttons could be active at the wrong moment.
Upgrade notes
- Create new progress log files before you use them as migration input (a rarely used feature). Files from the previous format cannot be used for this purpose.
- WikiTraccs now adds an empty Content Decision List Registry list to every WikiTraccs site it prepares, even when you do not use Content Decision Lists.
