WikiPakk Features

Features of the SharePoint page tree and breadcrumb provided by WikiTraccs WikiPakk.

What does WikiPakk provide?

WikiTraccs WikiPakk adds the following productivity-enhancing functions to the SharePoint modern pages experience, centered around a SharePoint page tree and breadcrumb navigation:

  • a hierarchical page tree for SharePoint pages
  • a breadcrumb navigation above every page providing quick context
  • a children display web part showing child pages for the current page
  • a page tree editor to re-order and nest pages via drag and drop
  • auto-nesting of new pages under the current page
  • automatic news grouping by publishing date
  • bulk deletion of entire page subtrees
  • page title quick search across the whole hierarchy
  • multilingual support with automatic language detection
  • permission-aware page tree that respects item-level permissions
  • duplicate page detection to identify copied pages

Zero configuration required.

No content types or fields need to be added. Add the app to any site and breadcrumb and page tree will appear, ready to be used.

Page Tree and Breadcrumb

A horizontal bar will be added to the top of the site, showing a breadcrumb and a “Page Tree” button. When opening a SharePoint modern page, the breadcrumb will show its position in the configured page hierarchy. An SPFx application customizer is responsible for adding the top bar.

Selecting the “Page Tree” button will slide out a panel from the right, showing all modern pages. The pages are shown as tree, according to your chosen hierarchy.

The page tree respects SharePoint item-level permissions. Pages that a user cannot access are hidden from the tree, so each user sees only the pages they have access to.

Page Tree Editor

The “WikiPakk Page Tree Editor” web part is used to configure the page hierarchy. The web part can be added to any modern page. It shows all modern pages of the site. Those pages can be moved around by drag and drop, forming a hierarchy of pages. Breadcrumb and page tree will reflect the configured hierarchy.

Auto-Nesting of New Pages

New SharePoint pages are automatically added to the page hierarchy. When you are on a SharePoint page and create a new page, the new page will become a child of the current page. All pages can be reordered at any time using the page tree editor.

Children Display Web Part

The children display web part automatically shows a list of child pages for the current page, creating a dynamic navigation overview. Add it to any modern page to give visitors quick access to sub-pages.

Smart News Grouping

The page tree automatically groups news posts by publishing date. It creates nodes for years and months in which news have been published. News pages are automatically sorted into this hierarchy based on their date of first publishing. Unpublished news are highlighted directly in the tree so you can easily identify them.

The news grouping feature can be configured via the settings list, including customizing the label of the top-most news node and enabling or disabling the feature entirely.

Multilingual Support

WikiPakk seamlessly supports multilingual SharePoint sites. When translated pages exist (created via the out-of-the-box SharePoint multilingual pages feature), the page tree shows the right page title for the current language. This also applies to news posts.

Bulk Deletion of Subtrees

Need to clean up a section of your site? WikiPakk allows you to delete entire page subtrees in one action, including all descendant pages. This is useful for removing outdated content areas or cleaning up after a reorganization.

Confluence Migration Compatibility

The page tree is compatible with pages that were migrated by WikiTraccs. The migrated Confluence hierarchy just works with the WikiPakk page tree. New SharePoint pages can be added alongside migrated pages and everything can be reordered.

Security and Privacy

WikiPakk is designed with minimal permissions in mind. It requires only light SharePoint permissions and has no external dependencies. All data stays within your SharePoint tenant.

WikiPakk is available as a verified app directly from Microsoft AppSource, providing a secure and trusted installation path.

Customization

WikiPakk can be configured via a settings list. Available options include:

  • moving the page tree button and panel to the left side of the page
  • injecting custom CSS for visual adjustments
  • customizing the news node label

Usage Metrics

WikiPakk has optional telemetry built in that can be switched on to record usage metrics. This is turned off by default and needs to be explicitly configured. When turned on, all telemetry data stays within your SharePoint tenant.
